YOUTH ACTIVITIES – WINTER/SPRING 2008

 

 

 

AFTER SCHOOL RECREATION

After School gym activities, team sports, and individual athletics will be conducted by a recreation leader at each elementary school three days a week from 3PM – 5PM when school is in session.  This program will start the week of September 17, 2007

 

Location:            Each elementary school (Gymnasium)

Dates:                  Starting September 17th through May 9, 2008

Days/Times:        3 days a week (will vary at each school) 3-5PM

Fee:                      There is a $25.00 fee for flag football & basketball

Eligibility:           Girls and Boys in grades 4 & 5

 

DROP-IN CENTER

Attention all 6th through 8th graders!  The Pelham Recreation Department has opened the doors of the Drop-In Center for middle school students from 2:15-4:00 p.m.  The Drop-In Center is open Monday through Friday for students, rain or shine.  Our new location is the Middle School Cafeteria.  So stop by, play some pool with a friend, try PlayStation 2 or other games, or just come by and hang out with us.

PROGRAMS FOR THE DISABLED

Pelham is part of the Southeast Consortium for Special Services, a non-profit organization that provides year round therapeutic recreational programs for persons with disabilities.  Transportation is provided to and from each activity.  The program includes arts and crafts, basketball, “Friday Nights Socials” and Swimming on Saturday mornings.  For further information call Joan Bell at 738-3362 or the Southeast Consortium at 698-3362

FOUL SHOOTING

The championship shoot-off for the elementary grades and the open competition for youngsters in grades 4-12 will begin at 10AM. Saturday, February 9th at PMHS.

REC 101-PELHAM TEEN CENTER

Need a place to hang out with your friends?  Students in grades 6-12, why not come down to the Richard J. Daronco Town House and enjoy music, video games, PlayStation 2 and other fun games.  Again, it’s our pleasure to announce that the Recreation Department, in cooperation with the New Rochelle YMCA ( 50 Weyman Avenue ) has opened the doors to the YMCA on Saturday nights to your son or daughter!  There will be many different activities available such as basketball, volleyball, art, swimming, racquetball, strength training and many others.  You must have a Pelham Teen Center ID Card in order to go.  We do provide the transportation from the Town House to the YMCA.

REC 102-BASKETBALL-ELEMENTARY BOYS&GIRLS GRADES 4&5

Each elementary school will field a Boys’ and Girls’ basketball team for grades 4 & 5.  Each school’s team will compete in a round robin tournament.  Boys and Girls have separate leagues and games will be played weeknights (Mon-Thurs) at the Hutchinson Gym and Main Gym @ High School.  The Season will begin the week of January 7th.  You must register in advance.

REC 104-PIANO LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS

Learn the Piano!  Lessons will be given at the Richard J. Daronco Town House on Saturdays, beginning January 12th.  The fee is $210.00, including keyboard rental.

The first session of Story Hour will be January 8th – March 18th and the second session will be from April 1st – June 3rd .  Class size is limited to 25 children/parents choose “A DAY”.

DRAMA KIDS – AGES 5 – 17

This acclaimed program encompasses a large volume of fun drama activities aimed at increasing self-confidence, self esteem, and verbal skills of all students.  Enthusiastic participation is encouraged at all times and students present short, scripted production at the end of each session for parents and friends.  Above all, they learn to speak clearly, act confidently and have fun.  For additional information call 914/712-7484.

REC 108-SKI TRIPS

Ski Trips will be back for the 20th season of one-day trips.  The trips will take place between January & February 2008.  Flyers will be distributed in advance announcing information.

REC 111 – NEW YORK GOJU KARATE

This program is designed to teach men, women & youngsters of all ages.  The emphasis is on developing the individual’s self-awareness.  The weapon developed through Goju Karate training is confidence.
